New Electric Rates in Alameda Starting July 1

ALAMEDA, CA – At its regular meeting on April 17, the Alameda Public Utilities Board (PUB) approved a 7 percent system average rate increase across all rate classes that will go into effect on July 1.  This rate increase allows AMP to maintain its competitiveness and financial strength.

AMP’s rates will still average about 37% lower than neighboring communities, saving Alamedans a total of $42 million per year.  AMP is proud to be the low-cost provider of essential electric service while also providing 100% clean power since 2020, 25 years ahead of California’s statewide goal.

Additionally, AMP recently received the highest designation for excellence in safety, workforce development, reliability, and system improvement from the American Public Power Association (APPA) under their Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) program.  PUB commissioners accepted the Diamond level award from an APPA representative at last month’s board meeting.  This award is an incredible accomplishment that no other California utility achieved in 2023, is a reflection of the great work AMP employees do for the community and affirms AMP’s responsible use of customer revenues to build a resilient and reliable system.

AMP is a community-owned and locally operated electric system and does not make a profit on rates. The revenue from electric sales goes toward the operation of the system, customer-facing programs, and to the community through annual transfers of $6 million to the city’s general fund for valuable community services.

AMP provides many incentives and rebate programs for residential and commercial customers that reduce energy consumption and promote building electrification, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure so we can all breathe a little easier and help slow the effects of climate change.  Additionally, AMP continues to provide a number of financial assistance programs for qualifying customers.  For more information about AMP, its incentives and rebate programs, or financial assistance, visit our website at: www.alamedamp.com
