AMP Earns National Recognition for Environmental Programs
ALAMEDA, CA – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has been recognized as a national industry leader for its “smart energy” programs focused on energy efficiency, sustainability and the customer experience. AMP was one of 27 community-owned utilities in the nation to earn the designation of “Smart Energy Provider” from the American Public Power Association (APPA) in 2020.
The Smart Energy Provider designation, which lasts for two years (2020-2022), recognizes public power utilities for leadership in four key areas: smart energy program structure; energy efficiency and distributed energy programs; environmental and sustainability initiatives; and the customer experience. This is the second year APPA has offered the designation. In total, 94 public power utilities in the U.S. hold the designation.
“Earning the Smart Energy Provider designation highlights the green priorities of the city of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board and the environmental commitment of our customers,” AMP General Manager Nicolas Procos said. “AMP is honored to be recognized for initiatives and programs that benefit the environment.”
In January 2020, AMP began providing 100% clean energy from wind, hydro, geothermal and landfill sources to all customers, placing Alameda in a select group of cities leading the nation in the transition to green power.
