PUB to Host Annual Planning Workshop

On Monday, January 31, the City of Alameda Public Utilities Board will host a Special Meeting for the purpose of conducting its Annual Planning Workshop.  The meeting will be held at the Alameda Municipal Power Service Center, 2000 Grand Street (at its intersection with Clement Avenue) beginning at 4:00 p.m.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

"The workshop is an essential component of our planning process that ensures that our operations are aligned with customer expectations, community goals, and Board direction and also that we are appropriately anticipating and addressing future challenges." said Greg Hamm, President of the Board.

The 2011 workshop builds on the work accomplished during similar workshops held each year, beginning in 2007.  During 2009 workshop, the Board developed a purpose statement for the utility, "Increase value to Alameda by providing safe, reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible electricity."  Also discussed were 10 strategies to achieve it.  These strategies included such elements as corporate identity, financial health, workforce, policies and procedures, contributions to the city, energy efficiency and renewables, rates, reliability, local control, and power supply, all under the umbrella of customer and community satisfaction.

Utility General Manager Girish Balachandran explained, "Outcomes of the Annual Planning Workshop will feed into the development of the Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Budget, ongoing performance assessment through selected Key Performance Measures reported monthly by staff to the Public Utilities Board, and our long-term planning."
