AMP Awards Ice Cream Contest Winner

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) presented the prize to the winner of its Name the Ice Cream Contest last Friday at Tucker's Ice Cream. Alameda resident Benjamin Gleitzman won for his entry titled “Marshmallow Megavolt.” The contest, sponsored by AMP and Tucker’s, challenged residents to come up with a unique and electrifying name for a new ice cream flavor commemorating AMP’s 125th anniversary.

“Strong, memorable, and alliterative, Marshmallow Megavolt alludes to the velvety combination of smooth marshmallow crème and electric, perky bits of espresso,” said Mr. Gleitzman, describing why he chose this name. “It’s a flavor that would surely make Alessandro Volta proud and Alameda smile.”

AMP received over 650 entries in its contest to name the new ice cream that consists of lemon marshmallow swirled through a green Irish crème base and sprinkled with bits of espresso. The winning entry was chosen by a panel of AMP employees. The winner's prize included gift certificates to local businesses.

“We received so many creative entries,” noted Sherri Hong, AMP’s Assistant General Manager for Customer Resources, as she presented the prize to Mr. Gleitzman. “It was difficult to select just one to commemorate AMP’s 125th anniversary.”

Marshmallow Megavolt is available at Tucker’s Ice Cream, 1349 Park St. It will also be available at AMP’s booth at the City’s Jumpin’ & Jivin’ Jubilee in Rittler Park on July 4th.
