Marketplace Supports 100 Percent Renewable Energy from Alameda Municipal Power

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is proud to welcome Marketplace to AMP’s new Alameda Green program, which enables customers to choose 100 percent renewable energy. Marketplace is the program’s first business participant.

This renewable power commitment, approximately 123,900 kilowatt hours derived from clean wind and solar generation sources, will avoid the annual release of over 154,600 pounds of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas. This has the carbon emissions equivalent of 15 acres of forest storing carbon for one year, or removing 13 cars from the road.

“Alameda Green fits perfectly with our goals as a local, sustainable business by enabling my business to choose 100 percent clean, renewable energy,” said Donna Layburn, owner of Marketplace. “I hear often from our customers how much they appreciate our commitment to being as green as we can be.”

This purchase also makes Marketplace eligible to join the U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership, a national program that encourages organizations to buy renewable energy as a means of reducing the environmental impacts associated with electricity use.

Marketplace is located on Park Street and is home to ten locally owned and independently operated businesses that focus on gourmet, all-natural, sustainable, handmade, artisan and organic foods.
