Alameda Municipal Power Receives National Recognition for Providing Safe and Reliable Power
ALAMEDA, Calif. – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is one of 184 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn platinum Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service. The designation, which is valid for three years, was announced today at the 2014 APPA Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This is the second consecutive time AMP has received this designation. The RP3 recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key areas: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. “The RP3 designation represents a high level of service to the community,” said Madeline Deaton, Public Utilities Board president. “AMP is honored to receive this designation, which recognizes the commitment of AMP and our employees to safety and reliability, and to our customers.” In addition to performing best practices in safety and reliability, there are also financial benefits associated with the RP3designation, such as improved bond ratings and cost savings from workers compensation and insurance. This contributes to the financial health of AMP as a locally owned municipal utility and provides community value with competitive electric rates. “Receiving the RP3 designation means a lot to us,” said Douglas Draeger, AMP’s Assistant General Manager for Engineering & Operations. “It’s an honor to be recognized on a national level for the work we are doing here locally in Alameda.” This is the ninth year the RP3 recognition has been offered by the APPA. Located in Washington, D.C., APPA is a national organization representing more than 2,000 not-for-profit and community- and state-owned electric utilities. Contact
