AMP Announces Topic of Next Town Hall: Community Solar
Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) announced today that it will host the second in its series of town hall meetings on the future of energy on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at Alameda City Hall Council Chambers. At this meeting, AMP seeks to gauge interest in community solar as an option for customers who might not otherwise have access to solar as an energy choice. Community solar enables people who lack rooftops suited for solar panels to invest in and benefit from these panels placed elsewhere. Participants would be able to buy into the program by either paying upfront or by paying an ongoing monthly fee to have access to the panels. The customer then receives a benefit from the electricity that each share produces. AMP initiated this series of town hall meetings to engage the community in a dialogue about the challenges and opportunities the utility is facing in regard to climate change, increased regulation, an aging electric grid, and the rise of and integration into the electric grid of solar, wind turbines and battery storage. The first meeting in June focused on rooftop solar and asked the community for feedback on the best way to price solar in the future.
