Alameda Municipal Power Honored for Outstanding Safety Practice

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Alameda Municipal Power has earned the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2015. The utility earned first place in its category.

“Safe operating practices are a critical part of our mission to provide reliable power to Alameda,” said Glenn Steiger, General Manager of Alameda Municipal Power. “We are tremendously proud that we do everything we can to send our people home safely to their families each and every night.”

More than 250 utilities entered the annual Safety Awards. Entrants were placed in categories according to their number of worker hours and ranked based on the most incident-free records during 2015.

In 2015, Alameda Municipal Power had zero recordable injuries or illnesses. The utility’s incidence rate was zero. The incidence rate, used to judge entries, is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker hours during 2015, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The Safety Awards were presented on April 4, during APPA’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. APPA is the national organization representing more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community- and state-owned electric utilities.
