AMP General Manager Glenn Steiger to Retire in September

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Glenn Steiger, the general manager of Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), has announced his retirement effective September 2. Steiger has served as general manager of Alameda’s community-owned utility since 2014.

During his tenure, he launched AMP’s implementation of smart meters, increased the utility’s financial stability through balanced budgeting, introduced a local “microgrid” concept for Alameda Point’s electric system, and developed a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan.

AMP is one of the oldest public power utilities in the United States, serving more than 34,000 residential and commercial customers with a $64 million budget. The utility has a strong renewable portfolio and a reliability record within the top quartile of all western U.S. utilities.

“The city will be searching for a leader for AMP who will have the same level of commitment to innovation that Glenn demonstrated during his tenure,” said City Manager Jill Keimach, who sits on the Public Utilities Board.
