Alameda Municipal Power Earns Two National "Top 10" Rankings for Alameda Green

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has once again been recognized as a national industry leader for its green power program, Alameda Green. AMP has earned two separate top 10 rankings from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the U.S. Department of Energy's primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research.

Alameda Green gives residents and businesses the option to match up to 100 percent of their monthly electricity use with renewable energy sourced from wind, biogas and solar projects. Currently, the program’s participants include 2,100 residents and 70 businesses. The program recently committed to sourcing even more renewable energy from California to help drive clean energy development in the state and the region

The first ranking highlights AMP’s high percentage of customers participating in Alameda Green. In 2016, 6.27 percent of Alameda’s customers participated in the program — giving AMP an 8th place ranking on the list of national utilities with the highest green power program participation rate.

The second ranking showcases AMP’s green power megawatt-hour (MWh) sales in comparison with total utility MWh sales, where the utility placed 9th with 2.92 percent of total utility megawatt-hour (MWh) sales coming from Alameda Green.

“AMP understands that our customers care deeply about the environment and the community,” said AMP General Manager Nicolas Procos. “That’s why we, as a community-owned utility, are proud to offer our Alameda Green program to our customers.”
