Alameda Municipal Power advises customers that, if they're thinking about getting a new refrigerator, the time to buy is now.  A new State limited-time rebate under the Cash for Appliances program is offering a $200 rebate, and when combined with AMP's standard $100 rebate, will result in a $300 savings for those who act fast.

The big push for solar

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems convert the energy of the sun into electricity that is pollution-free, renewable, reliable, and safe.  There has never been a better time to look at a solar energy system, as the installation costs are continuing to go down, and rebates and tax credits have made going green through solar more affordable than ever.

The State of California has mandated that all electric utilities provide rebates to residential and commercial customers who install an approved solar PV system.  Effective January 1, 2009, new federal legislation provides for a 30% tax credit on the total cost of a solar energy system, removing the previous $2,000 payment cap, creating a compelling incentive to install a solar PV system now.

Second Refrigerator Pickup Program

And that old, second refrigerator in your garage? You can get a $35 rebate just for having it picked up and recycled properly.

Switching to Compact Fluorescent Lighting

Why CFLs Make Sense

Switching to Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL) is a no-brainer when you compare it to traditional lighting.

Regular Incandescents:
  • Waste about 90 percent of their energy generating heat
  • Last about 1,000 hours, or about 8.5 months of light
Compact Fluorescents:
  • Use 75% less electricity than a regular bulb
  • provide up to 10,000 hours (7 yrs) of light.
