Alameda Power & Telecom Warns about Credit Card Scam

ALAMEDA, Calif., July 16, 2008 —Alameda Power & Telecom is warning customers to beware of callers demanding immediate payment on any electric, cable television, or Internet bills.


The utility reports that customers throughout Alameda have received calls from a party representing themselves as being from the "Billing Department."  The caller states that a recent bill has not been paid in full, immediate payment is required, and that the customer must provide a credit card number or other financial information.

Alameda Power & Telecom has notified the Alameda Police Department of this activity and has been assured that the calls will be investigated.  The utility also reminds customers that, in case of delinquencies, it provides written notice to its customers first.
